Character building
I received an invitation from an interesting new independent publishing venture this week. The curiously, wonderfully named The Gentlemen Press, based in Birmingham (West Midlands, not Alabama), specialises in new and emerging young-adult fiction and is launching its enterprise with a short story competition for writers aged 13 to 21. The winning entries will be collected in an anthology.
To coincide with the competition, The Gentlemen Press is posting a series of blogs commissioned from published writers, offering tips and reflections on various elements of the writing process. I was asked to put together a few words on characterization.
