First prize!
Just heard that Flip has won the 2012 Immanuel College Book Award, voted for by pupils at the independent school in Hertfordshire . . . my first prize as a teen/YA author! (I was starting to get twitchy – from 13 shortlistings and longlistings, FLIP hasn’t won any of the seven prizes that have declared so far.)
I’m especially flattered to have won this one, given the strength of the shortlist – Gregory Hughes, Patrick Ness, Garth Nix, Delphine de Vigan and Carlos Ruiz Zafon. My spy in the camp tells me Flip pipped Mr Ness’s excellent A Monster Calls by eight votes. I am very grateful to all the pupils who voted for my novel and to Ethan Cohen, in Year 7, who nominated it in the first place.
