Flip is in the House
Congratulations to Morris Gleitzman, Patrick Ness and Annabel Pitcher for being shorlisted in the older readers category of the 2012 Red House Children’s Book Award. Of the three titles, so far I’ve only read Patrick Ness’s A Monster Calls, the wonderfully written and deeply affecting novel he produced from an initial idea by Siobhan Down, who sadly died before she could write the novel herself.
While Flip didn’t make it on to the shortlist, I am delighted that it has been selected by Red House as one of its Pick of the Year titles in the older reader section. Children all over the country read and review hundreds of books for this award and the top 50 – spanning three age categories – are the Pick of the Year. As it says on the Red House site, “The top ten make up the shortlist but the other 40 books are favourites too and come highly recommended.”
