Flip up for award
I’m delighted to announce that Flip has been longlisted for the prestigious UKLA Children’s Book Award 2012. The award, run by the UK Literacy Association and judged by teachers, is divided into three categories and Flip is among those in contention in the 12 to 16-year-old section. Recent winners in this category include Siobhan Dowd for Bog Child, Neil Gaiman for The Graveyard Book and Jason Wallace for Out of Shadows.
Naturally, I’m chuffed to have made the longlist with my first teen/YA novel, not least because I’m in such exalted company: David Almond, Tim Bowler, Kevin Brooks, Jenny Downham, Geraldine McCaughrean, Patrick Ness, Annabel Pitcher and Marcus Sedgwick are also among those who’ve been longlisted. The shortlist isn’t announced until next spring but, looking at the competition, I’m not exactly holding my breath!
