Hat-trick for Flip!
Just heard the smashing news that Flip has won the 2012 Bay Book Award – taking its tally of prizes to three.
Voting took place at a special event today involving scores of students from the six participating schools in the Neath-Port Talbot area of south Wales: Cwmtawe, Coedcae, Glanafan, Treorchy, Sandfields and Cymmer. According to Meinir Howells, of Cwmtawe, who organised this year’s award, “The discussion was very lively and the final voting was quite tense but, in the end, Flip saw off all rivals and was a comfortable winner.”
My spies tell me The Hunting Ground, by Cliff McNish, was second while Delirium, by Lauren Oliver, came third. The other two shortlisted novels were A Beautiful Lie, by Irfan Master, and Half Brother, by Kenneth Oppel.
